Celebrating Earth Month at Sky Studios Elstree

This April, Sky Studios Elstree proudly celebrated Earth Month, a time dedicated to raising awareness and taking action in support of our planet. With sustainability at the heart of everything we do, Earth Month provides an opportunity for teams across the studio to come together, reflect on the impact of our everyday choices, and take practical steps towards a more sustainable future.

Earth Hour

Lights off at Sky Studios Elstree!

To mark Earth Hour on 28 March, we switched off the lights in the iconic Sky Studios Elstree arch!

Earth Hour, a global initiative led by World Wide Fund for Nature, is an annual movement that brings together millions of people, businesses and landmarks across the world to show support for the planet. Participants are encouraged to switch off non-essential lights for 60 minutes. The initiative, which began in 2007, now spans more than 190 countries and is widely recognised as the world’s largest grassroots environmental campaign.

The switch‑off at Sky Studios Elstree marked the first in a series of sustainability‑focused events planned throughout the year, delivered in partnership with our facilities management company, CBRE, as we continue working together towards a more sustainable future.

Earth Day Volunteering

On Thursday 23 April, twelve members of the Sky Studios Elstree team rolled up their sleeves and spent the morning volunteering at Home Farm in Elstree to celebrate Earth Day.

During the visit, ecologist, farmer and biodiversity consultant Rob Hopkins led us on a guided tour of the farm and surrounding woodlands. His passion and depth of knowledge really shone through. He even inspired some of us to start growing vegetables!

Home Farm is working with experts from the Herts & Middlesex Wildlife Trust as part of a long‑term Environment Management Plan, focused on increasing biodiversity and restoring natural habitats across the estate. This includes tree planting, hedgerow restoration, woodland management and the reinstatement of ghost ponds, all designed to support wildlife and healthier ecosystems.

Throughout the day, the team got involved in a range of hands‑on activities, including:

  • Potato planting 🥔
  • Tree planting 🌳
  • Mulching 🍃 (applying a protective layer of material to the soil around plants)
  • A guided forest walk 🌼

A big thank you to the team at Home Farm for hosting such an informative, enjoyable and memorable day.

Earth Month at Sky Studios Elstree is a reminder that meaningful change starts with awareness and action. By coming together to support initiatives like Earth Hour and Earth Day, we continue to play our part in supporting a more sustainable future, on-site and beyond.
