Sky Studios Elstree celebrates sustainable creativity at the BFDG's 14th Production Design Awards

Wednesday 26 March 2025

In February, Sky Studios Elstree proudly sponsored the ‘Positive Planet Award’ for a second time at the 14th British Film Designers Guild (BFDG) Production Design Awards. Operations Manager, Peter Okell, presented the award, while Senior Client Services Manager, Matilda Wylie, represented the studios on the judging panel.

The Planet Positive Award is awarded to either an Art Department or crew member who has 'demonstrated exceptional creativity and foresight in integrating sustainability into their work. Whether it’s through pioneering new, sustainably sourced materials, adopting innovative design techniques, or implementing comprehensive end-of-life plans for props and sets.'

My Lady Jane was the deserving winner of this year's award, in recognition of its collaboration with the non-profit organisation ReCollective.

ReCollective is a network of collaborators and members, working together to create systematic changes in attitudes towards waste materials. Their ingenious system transforms film set waste into valuable community infrastructure.

From My Lady Jane, 8.3 tonnes of material from waste streams was diverted and used the materials to support over 7 community projects.

Production Designer, Will Hughes-Jones, collected the award on the night, on behalf of the production and ReCollective.

Sustainability remains at the core of Sky Studios Elstree's values, making the Planet Positive Award the obvious choice for sponsorship at the Production Design Awards.

"We work with productions to reuse and recycle as much as possible, aiming to donate items locally as well as ensuring any waste is handled in the most sustainable ways possible.

I was particularly impressed with how My Lady Jane actively went out to seek alternative means of handling their production waste. Seeing how ReCollective utilised the materials they collected to contribute to community lead schemes was very inspiring."
