Sky Studios Elstree Celebrates Sustainability at the BFDG's 15th Production Design Awards

The British Film Designers Guild (BFDG) Production Design Awards returned on Saturday 28 February at the Royal Lancaster London. Now in its 15th year, the ceremony brought together the creative community to celebrate the exceptional talent that shaped film and television production design throughout 2025.

Sky Studios Elstree was proud to once again sponsor the Planet Positive Award, created in association with BAFTA albert, which recognises productions and art departments leading the way in environmentally responsible production design.

Sustainability is at the heart of everything we do at Sky Studios Elstree. We are an all‑electric studio powered by 100% renewable electricity, and our key initiatives include solar energy generation, full‑LED lighting, low‑carbon transport options, and a comprehensive recycling and waste‑reduction system. We continue to expand our industry-leading approach to sustainable production, currently trialling a first‑of‑its‑kind clean mobile power unit - combining hybrid hydrogen fuel cells with sodium batteries - to provide a quiet, zero‑emission alternative to traditional diesel generators.

Alongside our own initiatives, we also support productions on site by providing guidance, tools and solutions to help them adopt sustainable practices from day one.

This year, Operations Manager Peter Okell and Senior Client Services Manager Matilda Wylie represented Sky Studios Elstree on the judging panel for the Planet Positive Award. The winner was Down Cemetery Road from Apple TV+, with the short film Wake named as the runner‑up.

“If sustainability is going to be meaningful then it absolutely has to be a core part of the project… when you look at what Down Cemetery Road have done, they’ve planned their sustainability initiatives across the production… we work with our productions at Sky Studios Elstree to do a similar thing.. engage everyone from the outset”
