SUSTAINABILITY

Sky Studios Elstree has some of the most ambitious studio sustainability goals in the world.

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

As one of the founding members of BAFTA Albert’s Studio Sustainability Standard, we help to provide a framework for studios to be more sustainable and support their productions in reducing their carbon footprint whilst on-site. In 2024, we were named the world’s most sustainable studio.

Our site was designed from the ground up with the most sustainable materials and technologies, leading the way for studios around the globe.

ENERGY

140,000 sqft of rooftop solar panels power 40% of electricity on site, reducing our carbon emissions by 487 tonnes per year. That’s equivalent to 22,371 trees being planted annually - enough to power over 200 homes each year.

We use 100% LED lighting across site (house, office, external, etc.) with motion sensor control systems to ensure maximum efficiency in and out of hours.

WASTE

Our waste recycling centre facilitates the collection of 1100 bins per week. Zero waste goes to landfill, and we provide in-depth monthly waste reports for productions.

All food is from local suppliers, and we support regional food donation programs and charities.

Our office furniture is end-of-line, high-quality ex-demo furniture, reducing manufacturing emissions.

TRANSPORT

Our site has exclusively electric golf buggies, van, forklift and facilities vehicles plus an electric shuttle bus for site visitors. We have 80 EV Charging points in our car park and a partnership with Beryl Bikes for travel to and from Elstree & Borehamwood Station.

We provide HVO biofuel on site for refuelling, reducing greenhouse emissions from operations by up to 90%, and we have a no diesel fuel policy for machinery.

ENVIRONMENT

During Sky Studio Elstree’s construction, 95% of waste was diverted from landfill with 23.9% of embodied carbon reduced through design. All buildings have an EPC rating of A.

Our rainwater harvesting system waters plants on site, filtering through our ponds and connecting to local waterways, reducing water consumption by 45%.

Bat and bird boxes support local habitat corridors, and we have recently installed 4 new bee hives.
